The province of Bali, through the launch of the Bali Net Zero Emissions initiativein August 2023, has confirmed its commitment to becoming the leading provincein achieving net zero emissions by 2045. This commitment is a concrete effort under Bali Governor Regulation No. 45 of 2019on Clean Energy in Bali, as well as a milestone in the journey of green developmentin the Province of Bali.
This government commitment also reflects various grassroots initiatives in Bali,where community groups and development partners collaborate on data-driven innovationand implement strategies rooted in Balinese cultural values.
To strengthen the commitment of all parties in Bali Province to reduce carbon emissionsand create a cleaner and healthier environment, as well as emphasize the importanceof collaboration and community involvement, the Bali Net Zero Emissions Coalition
(Bali ENB Coalition) held a public discussion and talk show,”Bali Net Zero Emissions Coalition: A Collaborative Effort to Transform Climate Ambition into Action,”at the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival (UWRF) in Ubud, Bali (October 26, 2024).
The event, held at Taman Baca, Ubud, was attended by members of the Bali ENB Coalition,namely World Resources Institute (WRI) Indonesia, Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR), New Energy Nexus (NEX) Indonesia, and CAST Foundation, along with representatives from local communities and stakeholders. The session was moderated by journalistand women’s rights activist Ni Ketut Sudiani.
Sofwan Hakim, Head of the Bali Net Zero Emissions Coalition Secretariat, stated that the goal of achieving Bali Net Zero Emissions by 2045 requires the support and participation of the government, stakeholders, and all levels of Balinese society. According to him, the Bali Net Zero Emissions Coalition supports Bali’s effortsby encouraging the government to formulate policies based on the local valuesof harmonious Balinese life, while also collaborating with the community to find sustainable local solutions.
“The Bali Net Zero Emissions Coalition strives to develop and implement local solutionsfor low-carbon technology, promote a just transition, and position Bali as a pilot model for the implementation of net zero emissions policies and actions at the sub-national level,”
